The Finals series got even more interesting as the Copenhagen Tridents won 3-2 for the second straight game. Each team has won twice in their own building and have made the Finals a best-two-out-of-three contest. On Wednesday, Copenhagen jumped in front 3-0 and appeared to be safely on their way to a win when Geneva…
Dany Heatley scored a pair of goals and had an assist on the other Copenhagen goal to lead the Tridents to a win in Game 3 of the EURO Cup Finals. It was Copenhagen’s first win of the series. All of the game’s 5 goals and 4 of its 7 penalties were packed into the…
Nicklas Lidstrom was at his very best, Roberto Luongo wasn’t, and that spelled a disappointing day for Copenhagen. The Tridents lost 6-3 to fall into a 2-0 hole in the series, and they lost a regular defenseman in the process. Lidstrom, 41, scored Geneva’s first two goals – each one tying the game – and…
In the battle for all the marbles, the Geneva Generals have one. The opening game of the first-ever Euro Cup finals was a cautious one, with only 5 minor penalties being called. After a scoreless first period, the Generals opened it up with two goals, one when Chris Kunitz batted in a rebound and the…
The months-long war in Europe that’s been waged on cold ice and against unforgiving wooden boards has come down to a final showdown. Two teams, one from Denmark and the other from Switzerland, have between 4 and 7 games to prove they are most worthy of the honor of holding the EURO League Cup over…
Geneva goes through to the finals, but barely. Trailing 1-0 more than halfway into the third period, Geneva came through with two goals on Munich’s Jonathan Quick and they will now face Copenhagen for the EURO Cup. Quick stopped 17 shots through the first two periods to keep the Generals off the board and Milan…
The Copenhagen Tridents are in. On the brink of elimination for three straight games, Copenhagen survived to be the Northern Conference champion. The Danish team dominated the first half of the game and were up 5-0 early in the third period. Dublin tried to come back but their three goals weren’t enough to extend the…
Matt Cooke was the dominant force in Munich Saturday, as his three-goal performance severed Geneva’s hopes of advancing to the EURO League finals. At least temporarily. The Foxes and Generals will put it all on the line Monday when they meet for Game 7 of the Southern Conference finals. The Northern Conference has also come…
The Copenhagen Tridents battled in hostile territory, scored two early goals and won the contest to tie the Northern Conference finals series at 3-3. On Sunday in Copenhagen, a deciding game will be played. On Friday, defenseman Alex Goligoski blasted a loose puck from the high slot past Tim Thomas, and Jamie Langenbrunner followed with…
Geneva scored four goals in a 7:30 span of the second period to erase a 2-goal deficit and emerge from Game 5 of the Southern Conference finals with a 6-4 win. Munich led 4-2 after Steve Downie and Toni Lydman scored goals in the second period, but then the Generals took over. Chris Kunitz, Marian…
