Copenhagen fights back to force a Game 7

The Copenhagen Tridents battled in hostile territory, scored two early goals and won the contest to tie the Northern Conference finals series at 3-3. On Sunday in Copenhagen, a deciding game will be played. On Friday, defenseman Alex Goligoski blasted a loose puck from the high slot past Tim Thomas, and Jamie Langenbrunner followed with a goal before the first five minutes were done. It was Goligoski’s third goal of the playoffs and Langenbrunner’s sixth. Dublin’s Ryan Kesler (12th) and Copenhagen’s Teddy Purcell (4th) scored before the first period ended, and it stayed 3-1 until more than half-way through the third period, when young star Evander Kane scored his 13th of the post season on the powerplay. Copenhagen and Roberto Luongo were able to weather the loud Dublin storm and they added an empty-net goal to clinch it with 9 seconds left. Copenhagen was led by Goligoski and Dany Heatley, who each tallied a goal and an assist, while forwards Troy Brouwer and Stephen Weiss led in shots on goal with 5 each. Keith Yandle had 4 hits and 3 blocked shots for the Irish.

The win was costly to the tridents, however. Near the middle of period 3, defenseman Fyodor Tyutin crashed into the boards, hurt his shoulder and his season is over, according to team officials. Tyutin, 28, scored 7 points in 18 playoff games and had zero plus-minus rating. During the regular season, he had 7 goals and 24 points in 73 games with a minus 13 rating. The means both teams will be playing Game 7 without a regular defenseman. Dublin lost James Wisniewski to injury on Wednesday.
