Nicklas Lidstrom was at his very best, Roberto Luongo wasn’t, and that spelled a disappointing day for Copenhagen. The Tridents lost 6-3 to fall into a 2-0 hole in the series, and they lost a regular defenseman in the process. Lidstrom, 41, scored Geneva’s first two goals – each one tying the game – and added an assist to be named the first star. The legendary Swedish defenseman also blocked 3 shots, took 5 of his own, was credited with 2 hits and was a plus 3 while logging an exhausting 29 minutes of ice time. During the regular season, Lidstrom played in 72 games, scored 13 times and tallied 45 points. He was a plus 23. Lidstrom, who appears to have more good hockey left in him, is in the final year of a $6.2 million contract. Sharing the spotlight with him was teammate Patrick Marleau who assisted on 4 goals, got 8 shots on Luongo, and won 18 of 27 faceoffs. Chris Kunitz scored a pair for Geneva and teammate Dennis Wideman came up with a goal and an assist as well as 3 hits. For Copenhagen, top liners Teddy Purcell (4 shots and 3 blocks), Stephen Weiss (3 shots and 5 hits) and Dany Heatley (3 shots ) had good numbers except for their minus 2 as a unit. That could be because Luongo gave up a couple of goals he would normally save. Both goalies were busy, with Luongo making 35 saves and Kari Lehtonen making 34. Another sell-out crowd packed the Swiss arena Saturday. Both teams will make two-hour flights tonight to Copenhagen for the next two games in the series. Not making the trip will be Swedish defenseman Carl Gunnarsson, who played in 79 regular season games and then 21 post-season games for Copenhagen. Gunnarsson looked woozy after taking an open-ice hit from Andrew Ladd and is out with what team officials are calling “an upper body injury.” The Trident defense corps was already missing Fyodor Tyutin. On their roster as possible fill-ins are recent free agent signing Henrik Tallinder as well as Keith Ballard and Justin Falk. Tallinder and Ballard both dressed for two playoff games this season, while Falk has just one regular season game on his resume.
