Picks 36 through 42:
Geneva – The Generals’ current goalies – Frederik Andersen and Michael Hutchinson – are 29 and 27 with 19-year-old Filip Gustavsson in the system as well. Ivan Nalimov, a 21-year-old Russian, was drafted at pick 36 and he and Gustavsson will be teammates vying for the top job once Andersen vacates the Geneva crease. Nalimov is a big, aggressive goalie who has a lot to learn as some good guy’s backup.
Milan – Jason Robertson is a winger with good size in the Dallas Stars organization. He was drafted by Milan at 37 as a prospect without attributes. The 6-2 Michigan native has put together back-to-back 40-goal seasons in the OHL.
Moscow – The Dynamo went with Eeti Luostarinen, a Finnish center in Carolina Hurricanes system. He 6-3, doesn’t seem to mind taking penalties, and he scores about twice as many assists as goals while playing in Finland.
Stockholm – Another Finnish forward went on the next pick as Stockholm selected slender 19-year-old Joni Ikonen, whose NHL rights belong to the Montreal Canadiens. Like Robertson and Luostarinen, Ikonen is a prospect without attributes. He can play center and right wing and is said to have great creativity and vision.
Stockholm – General Manager Michael Sauer stayed at the podium and called out yet another Finnish name, taking Roope Laavainen, a smooth-skating, intelligent-passing 22-year-old defenseman. There is a chance Laavainen sees some playing time this year. He and Mirco Mueller look to be the ones the Eagles turn to if injuries occur on the blueline.
Paris – Scouts like the way Swedish forward Marcus Davidsson, a Buffalo Sabres prospect, plays defense and they say he can also notch some goals. Paris GM Tim Norelco is hoping the Sabres don’t rush him into the lineup too soon, because his EURO League career will be dependent on his first NHL stats.
Munich – Linus Hogberg is just 18, so Red Bull bosses will have to wait a while to see what he turns out to be, but they already know he has very good speed. The Swede projects to be a two-way defenseman. The Draft Guide had him ranked 20th, but he was taken 42nd overall.
