Swedish defenseman Jacob Moverare will play in Norway with the young and talented Oslo Outlaws.
Oslo has had the unfortunate luxury of picking in the top 5 spots of the draft for the last six seasons. They have accumulated goalie Matt Murray, defensemen Viktor Antipin and Shayne Gostisbehere, center Connor McDavid and winger Tomas Hertl in that time. They had to be hoping either Lakatos or Polunin, both right wings, would join the Outlaws club to complete the young superstar lineup, but when London leapfrogged to number 1 in the draft, that dream had to be shelved.
But they get the best defenseman available and a guy the Draft Guide described like this: Maverare isn’t the biggest or fastest defense prospect in the draft – although he is no slouch in those areas – but he is capable of concentrating and thinking out there for a full game. Very reliable. He keeps himself in good shape and is considered a very coachable player, the kind of defenseman who should play for a decade. He doesn’t possess a very good slapshot but he has no holes in his game. He is currently an LA Kings prospect in the NHL.
Oslo now has this stable of young defensemen:
- Jacob Moverare, age 20, PO 91
- Zach Werenski, age 21, PO 94
- Viktor Antipin, age 22, PO 91
- Shayne Gostisbehere, age 24, PO 86
- Morgan Rielly, age 25, PO 84
Rielly will be negotiating a new contract this off season, but the other four are all relatively cheap.
