Gothenburg picked Canadian Dylan Sikura and he became the first center picked by the Swedish team since it went with Adam Henrique in the first round of the league’s initial draft.
General Manager Austin Dwyer would love for Sikura to turn out to be as important as Henrique has been to the franchise. Henrique has produced more than a point per game in his 561 career games and he is noted for his work as two-way player. Sikura will be more of an offensive weapon in his career.
NHL scouts in the Black Hawks organization took Sikura in the 6th round of the 2014 draft, but the Aurora, Ont., native has been a top scorer on the NCAA’s Northeastern
University for the last couple of years. Slick and shifty, he will have to use his speed and skating ability to make up for a lack of size. Scouts liken him to Cam Atkinson and see a little Denis Savard in there too. He will never be named the league’s best defensive forward, but he could lead Frolunda in scoring sometime soon.
Dwyer has to decide whether he will try to keep unrestricted free agent center Mikko Koivu and Mikael Backlund, and he does, that would probably means Sikura would start the season on the farm club in Aalborg, Denmark.
