EDINBURGH – On Saturday, fans in Scotland will see representatives from each team compete in the EURO Skills Competition that’s part of All-Star Weekend.
League darling Erik Forssell is already winning over the crowd.
“In my Berlin days, I never even tried to make it to the Skills Competition. It wasn’t pushed by the team and we would spend more time drinking than practicing. In Copenhagen, there is clear direction and morality,” Forssell said. He already won the team competition and will be the Tridents’ representative in the Fastest Skater Competition. And he has made a bold prediction: “I have a lot of fans in Scotland and all over Europe. I am winning this thing for those people. Count on it.” He also said he will be wearing a kilt when he races. We’re not sure if he was kidding or not.
Season 15 winners were:
- Fastest Skater: Reto Suri, London
- Hardest Shot: Patrik Laine, Amsterdam
- Accuracy: Aaron Ekblad, Minsk
To find out who the fastest skater, hardest shooter and most accurate marksman in the league are, you first have to figure out the top skills competitors on each team. In Belfast, Mitch Marner edged out Reto Suri, who won the Fastest Skater event last season when he played for London.
The chart below shows the competitors for the event. Their Websim ratings for Fastest (speed); Hardest Shot; and Most Accurate (SP; ST+SH; and FI+PA+SH) are in the column next to their name. A random number will fill the next column and the total of the two columns divided by 2 will appear in the third column to result in their final scores. Ties will be broken by the commissioner in another random draw.
