Mark Fraser, a fan favorite in Gothenburg for a decade, has retired from the sport as the EURO League’s all-time leader in fights. The 37-year-old Canadian defenseman battled 87 times and was declared the winner 22 times, which is also the most ever in the league. But Fraser was more than a policeman on the Swedish team. He was a plus player in 5 of his 10 seasons and ended his career as a +78 in that category. He could never be confused for an offensive defenseman or smooth puck handler, and he is currently 4th all-time in the league in penalty minutes behind P.K. Subban, Staffan Kronwall and Brad Marchand.
Fraser is one of 78 players who retired between Seasons 13 and 14. Many of them were all-stars during their careers. Zach Parise, Cory Perry, Dustin Byfuglien, Ryan Suter, Brent Burns and Andrej Meszaros were all platers who made it to 2 or more all-star games, and each has reitred.
And many of those who retired were listed on rosters last season:
