Helsinki, Oslo charging at record book

Helsinki won’t come close to breaking Minsk’s Season 6 record for points in the standings, but the Jokerit could end the year as the highest-scoring team in league history. They should also have a goaltending record to boast about.

With 4 games remaining to play, they need to score 19 times to tie Belfast’s record of 349 set in Season 10. That’s a tough assignment, but possible for the team that lists 3 of the league’s top 7 scorers this season (Anze Kopitar, Jonathan Toews and Taylor Hall). They also have a chance to set a new standard for powerplay efficiency. Their 24.9 PP percentage is not far off the league record of 25.2, set by Bern in Season 2.

Kari Ramo has all but sewn up the record for Best Goals Against Average. The previous record was 2.12, held by Carey Price and Jonathan Quick. Ramo is at 2.06 at the moment. Ramo played 10 seasons in Lisbon and joined Helsinki in his homeland this season.

Oslo will probably set a league record for fewest penalty minutes in a season. The Outlaws are the most law-abiding team by far. They might have to change that nickname to the Altar Boys some day.

Outlaw goalie Matt Murray is right on the save percentage record (92.1). His next game or two will determine if he makes or just misses a new record. If he scores another shutout, he ties the record for most shutouts in a season with 9.

As for individual scoring records, Steven Stamkos and John Tavares are safely through another season as record-holders in points, goals and assists, but Kopitar has an outside chance of joining the 50 Goal Club.

Zach Bogosian is poised to set a record for the best plus-minus season in history. The veteran who spent 8 of his previous 11 seasons in Stockholm, is in Helsinki this season and he is having a great season. His +76 is one goal better than Matt Duchene’s (Belfast) +75 from Season 7.

Another record that could fall in the last week of the season is Most Blocked Shots in a Season. The record is 143 and Dublin’s Hampus Lindholm needs to get in the way of 11 shots in 3 games to tie it.  Also, Nail Yakupov of Prague needs a shootout goal to tie that record, while London’s Dominik Lakatos is one behind Yakupov and needs 2 to tie the record.
