Free agency – Day 4

The champs signed a depth winger today in Frenchman Antoine Roussel. The 31-year-old has played 18 career games, all with Bratislava, and if he scores a goal or gets an assist for Copenhagen, it will be his first EURO League point. Only Myles Wood of Berlin has played more games without scoring a point.

He didn’t get to show much in Bratislava, but Roussel can play a dogged defensive game and he’s abrasive, so watch his penalty minute count. He also has no issues with dropping his gloves.

Currently ahead of Roussel on the Copenhagen depth chart are Johnny Gaureau, Tomas Jurco and Cedric Paquette. If Roussel gets ice time, it will be as a fourth-liner. His $2.35 million contract was probably more affordable than what unsigned Type 2 free agents Dennis Hollenstein and Jack Callow will ask for, so Roussel has that going for him.

Geneva re-signed its starting goalie, 34-year-old Ondrej Pavelec, who had a 3.80 goals against average last season. The Czech’s 63 games last season were his most since he played in 71 in Season 1. He has also played for Frankfurt, Belfast and Prague in his 11 years in the league.
