Two Smurfs make it onto Skills podiums

Fastest Skater

The home fans went crazy when their man Jan Kovar took the lead in the All-Star Game Skill Competition’s Fastest Skater event, but the cheering lasted only until Mattias Sjogren took his lap. The Swedish winger who plays for St. Petersburg put the pedal to the metal and won the event with a perfect score of 100. Kovar finished second. Simon Hjalmarsson of Copenhagen was third.

Hardest Shot

Two big defensemen who have often done well in the Hardest Shot event were there again this year. Tyler Myers of Bratislava won it, just ahead of Dublin behemoth Dustin Byfuglien. It was the second time Myers won the event, having topped the field in Season 6. Byfuglien, meanwhile, has now placed in top 3 six times and has been crowned champ three times. St. Petersburg winger Patrik Laine was third.

Accurate Shot

London star Taylor Hall finished in the Top 10 of all three events. His best showing was in the Accuracy Shooting event (second place). That event featured Erik Karlsson of Paris, who had won it 5 out of 9 years. Make that 5 out of 10 now. He placed fifth this year. Oslo center Connor McDavid scored a 100 to win the event ahead of Hall and Berlin’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who led the event in cheers from the crowd.
