Antoine Morand is used to scoring points at a rate of about one per game. He may not be able to continue scoring at that rate with the Anaheim Ducks in his first season when he gets his attributes, but boy, Zurich Lions fans would be so happy if he did. Morand plays center, is a little small and slight, but he seems to be an accomplished playmaker. Six of the last seven picks at this point in the draft were prospects without attributes.
The Oslo Outlaws added a defenseman in Moritz Wirth, 21, of Frankfurt, Germany. This is what was said about him int he Draft Guide: “Scouts like his size, toughness and his cool way of moving the puck out of his team’s end. The kid can pass and should be a shoo-in on a top powerplay unit in about 5 years. His lateral mobility is sub-par, and that affects his defensive play.” Wirth has virtually no chance of playing on the top two defense pairs in Oslo at any time in the future – unless there are trades – because of the tremendous number of young superstars on the blueline there, but he will be a solid 6th Dman in Oslo, and he could get more ice time with another team.
