Geneva drafts the Russian ‘Bere’

GM Andrew Rolling’s Geneva Generals have a good base of young players led by Dylan Larkin and Colton Parayko, with seven forwards under 25 with PO ratings of 80 or higher, and two defensemen with the same qualities including Brandon Carlo and Parayko. If Rolling was looking for a long-term “need” then goalie seemed like the likely area but Frederik Andersen is the definite number one in goal, and at 29, he has at least five great years left in him.

More depth at defense and a big injection of toughness is what Rolling went with when he took the biggest, baddest dude expected to be selected in the first round. Alexei Bereglazov, 18, is 6-4, 215 pounds already and he is still growing. He’s tough and he’ll take penalties but he should be a long-time starter on the blue line once he gains some experience with the Luxembourg Castles, Geneva’s farm club.

Here’s what was posted about him in the Draft Guide: “A tower of Russian power already, the huge Bereglazov projects to be a modern-day Tim Horton or Jerry Korab – a bear of a man who will clear the front of the net and make his presence known all over the ice. He seems to be a heads-up passer and could contribute on offense and the powerplay too. It might take Bereglazov several seasons to get into a lineup, but he will stay there for 8 or so years.”
