Forecast for St. Petersburg is Frosty

The Krassnye Zvezdy, who in the past have favored Russians, went across the ocean and out of the Draft Guide to pick Morgan Frost 10th in the Season 9 Draft. The 18-year-old from Aurora, Ontario, was also a first-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2017 and he spent the last season scoring 112 points for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the OHL. That output was nearly twice his point total from the previous year.

Dylan Sikura, who was selected 4th in the draft, is also from Aurora, as are Ryan Murphy of London, and Cale Tanaka, a free agent who played for Moscow for three seasons.

Currently, the best young center in the St. Petersburg system is Alexander Wennberg (PO 80).  If the kids stay on the team, either Frost or Wennberg will be feeding the team’s marquee young star, RW Patrik Laine for years to come.

Here is what some publications had to say about the young center:

A playmaking pivot who reads the game intelligently…calm and poised…agile on his skates and possesses excellent edgework, Futureconsiderations.ca 2017

Morgan has good hockey sense and he reads plays quickly in all three zones and reacts accordingly, Hockeyprospect.com 2017
