Milan Hejduk scored a little more than 4 minutes into sudden death overtime to give Munich a 3-2 win over Geneva on Tuesday. The win tied the Southern Conference finals at 2 games a piece. Hejduk’s winning goal – with assists to Matt Cooke and Joe Thornton – came on the powerplay with Justin Williams of Geneva sitting in the penalty box. Williams was called for roughing after punching Toni Lydman in the head during a scrum in front of Munich goalie Jonathan Quick. Both teams were 1 for 4 on the powerplay during regulation time. Had Geneva scored in overtime, the Generals would be playing in their home building on Thursday with a 3-1 series lead. Hejduk’s big goal was his second of the game and 6th of the playoffs. Thornton took a loose puck along the boards, entered the Geneva zone and fed Hejduk a backhand pass that the Czech forward snapped past Kari Lehtonen in the first minute of play. Thornton scored a powerplay goal, his 9th of the post season in the second period to give Munich a 2-1 lead. Geneva’s first game-tying goal came in the first period off the stick of David Desharnais (6th), while Ryan Malone sc0red his 4th of the playoffs with 3:12 remaining in regulation. The Generals’ most productive playoff performer, Mike Fisher, assisted on both goals. Jim Slater played another good game for Munich, getting 6 hits in 11 minutes of playing time. Munich will have to dig a little deeper into the lineup to fill out its defense pairings. Alexandre Picard, who replaced an injured Joe Corvo, was injured himself on Tuesday. Both players are at least a week away from being able to suit up for the Fox. Munich will put their faith in 32-year-old Mike Commodore, who has yet to play a game in a Fox uniform.
