Free agency not very frenzied

Thanks to the sky-high salaries player agents are asking for, there doesn’t seem to be much activity in the first step of free agency in the EURO League. That could change in the second step, when salary demands come down.

Actually, activity could increase at any minute, although it has remained quiet for two days now. As of noon (ET) Thursday, only four players have bidding wars going on for them.

Several players have indicated that they could make their decisions Friday. Quick winger Alexander Aitken, formerly of Copenhagen, has fielded three offers so far believed to be in excess of $8 million.

The busiest people in the league tomorrow might be the agents who handle the many good goalies who are looking for new teams. Several teams have expressed interest in Juuse Saros, who played in Bern last season, but only one will land him. That could send the other four or so teams looking for their next best option. The question is will they wait for the next free agency step or not? Paris goalie Chris Driedger also has a couple interested buyers, so he should soon be able to bank $6 million or more.

The only other competition for a free agent involves Ryan Pulock, the longtime Milan defenseman Ryan Pulock. He has two suitors currently.
