Round 1: Berlin and Zurich

Quick Glance:

Berlin seems to be just about unstoppable … at least until the Smurfs reach the conference finals or finals. Their top center (Ryan Nugent-Hopkins) scored 111 points this season and their second line center (John Tavares) had 97. That means the Smurfs’ second-best center scored more points than 15 other teams’ best player. The Lions did some decent scoring too, though. Alexander Polunin and Kieran Brown were 30-goal scorers and Polunin hit a personal best in points with 84. But more players will have to contribute if Zurich hopes to bump off the league’s second-best squad.

Goalies:

  • Zurich – Stuart Skinner 4.23 GAA and .860 save pct.
  • Berlin – Calvin Pickard, 2.51 GAA and .910 save pct.

Top Plus/Minus players:

  • Zurich – Tanner Jeannot +16
  • Berlin – Filip Hronek +49

Expert Panel Predictions:

  • Commissioner Chuck: Berlin in 4 games. Zurich has played Berlin well at home this season (3-2 and 4-3 wins), but the Smurfs have too much firepower and too few holes to fall to the Lions.
  • Rose: Zurich wins in 7 games. Maybe that will quiet Guybrush Threepwood for a couple days.
