A Question
We’re not sure what to make of this strategy. New Hanover General Manager Kent Armstrong, who has more than a dozen championship banners to his credit in other leagues, has sat firmly on his hands during his first off season in the EURO League. Not a dollar spent. At least not on the team. Armstrong was spotted several times dining in the German city with several of the team’s cheerleaders and Sepp Blatter, the EURO League’s director of discipline and player safety. Hmph. Interesting. Perhaps the plan is to take this very young team, with its 11 high-potential players age 25 or younger, and develop them for the long term by getting them ice time. Yes, they might take some lumps, but they could also gain valuable experience points for the future. In goal, Carl Lindbom and Jake Oettinger could be the long-term duo in Hanover if the team can resign Oettinger past this season. Right now, with its minuscule payroll of about $33 million, the team can certainly afford him. Up front, everyone in Hanover has to be excited about the future line of Tim Stutzle, Valetin Nussbaumer and Cole Caufield. NOTE: Michel Paradis took over the team after 1 game and added five free agents immediately.
Rose’s Focus

“Today, I would like to talk to you about talented rear ends. I guess you could say I have one, but I think we should try to take our minds off that and focus on Hanover’s team, shouldn’t we, gentlemen? They are the Scorpions, right? Well scorpions do most of their damage with their rear ends. This off-season, however, Hanover’s stinger was almost completely removed. Of the eight defensemen who suited up for Hanover last season, just one is still on the team. Layne Viveiros, a 27-year-old Austrian who does just about everything pretty well, is the anchor of the defense corps now. He was first among Hanover Dmen last season in assists and takeaways, second in blocked shots, shots taken and points. A good guy to still have on the team. Today, there are seven other blueliners on the roster, all under 26-years old. Who will be on the ice with Viveiros is a mystery.”
