For the fourth consecutive time, Patrik Laine of Amsterdam has taken the Hardest Shot contest in the EURO All-Star Game Skills competition.
That puts him into legend territory. In the early years of the competition, Dustin Byfyglien and Shea Weber were the kings of that event. Both won it 3 times and now Laine is the only one to win it four times.
Anders Lee, now of Lisbon; and Mike Indrasis of Munich were both pretty close to Laine this season, but they ended up in second and third, respectively.
In the Fastest Skater event, London’s Reto Suri defended his Season 14 crown with another win, edging out Prague defenseman Miro Heiskanen by 3 tenths of a second and Jonathan Huberdeau of Dublin by 5 tenths. Suri joins Petr Vrana and Steven Stamkos as the only two men to win the competition more than once. All have two titles.
Minsk defenseman Aaron Ekblad placed third in the Hardest Shot competition last season, but he turned his focus to the Accuracy Shooting contest, the event Erik Karlsson dominated for much of the league’s history. This year, Karlsson finished down in the pack a bit. Ekblad, however was a true sniper, turning in a perfect performance to take the title. Cale Makar of Munich, yet another defenseman, won it last season but placed second this time around. And Connor McDavid of Oslo finished a spot behind Makar for the second straight season.
