St. Petersburg is practically flipping its team, doing a major renovation that could include a new coach too. Today, the Krasnyye Zvezdy added eight players through free agency and they might not be done yet. The most famous of them all is Alexander Ovechkin, who at age 37, will get to say he has played for both Russian teams in the EURO League. Last season, with Stockholm, he scored 26 goals and 62 points, so there is every reason to believe he has some gas left in the tank.

The Red Stars (English translation) today added five forwards: Ovechkin, Anthony Mantha, Tomas Tatar, Brandon Sutter, Tobias Rieder; two defensemen: Nikita Zadorov, Nikita Zaitsev; and goalie Anton Khudobin.

Petrograd wasn’t the only team to sign players today. It just seemed like it.

Helsinki: Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Corey Crawford

Dublin: Curtis Lazar

Lisbon: Ondrej Kase
