This file photo shows Matt Duchene holds the EURO Cup up to the camera after the Belfast Giants won the Season 4 Cup in Athens. Visible teammates behind him include P.K. Subban, Nazem Kadri and Joe Pavelski. Duchene and Subban were still with the team when they won the Season 7 Cup against Pavelski and Lisbon this past weekend.
Matt Duchene will be at Home Depot this week, picking out a new trophy case. The talented center who played a major role in the Belfast Giants’ surge to a third EURO Cup was also named winner of these trophies today:
- Player of the Year
- Best Defensive Forward
- Sportsmanship
He doesn’t have a chance to win the Playoffs MVP trophy, but four trophies in three days isn’t all that bad.
Duchene, 27, scored 48 goals and 106 points during the season and built a plus 75 rating, which is an all-time EURO League record.
Other individual trophy winners include:
- Jonathan Quick, Belfast – Best Goalie
- Alex Pietrangelo, Paris – Best Defenseman
- Shayne Gostisbehere, Oslo – Rookie of the Year
- Dave Tippett, Minsk – Coach of the Year
