Moscow 5, Minsk 3 – Chris Stewart lengthened his goal-scoring streak to 4 games on a goal that put Moscow in front 3-0 and gave his teammates plenty of breathing room against the defending Cup champions who beat them two days earlier. Stewart has 5 goals in those four games and the last goalie to shut him out was Paris netminder Tuukka Rask more than a week ago. The Hussars had trouble getting much going against Moscow and the Dynamo’s penalty killers shut out Minsk’s powerplay in five attempts. Five different Moscow players scored on Carey Price and four Dynamo skaters had two-point games. Minsk’s Nicklas Backstrom did them one better with two goals and one assist. Nick Leddy had 5 shot blocks for Moscow.
Dublin 4, Oslo 1 – Cam Talbot allowed just one goal while three of his Dublin teammates – Vladimir Sobotka, James Van Riemsdyk and defenseman Hampus Lindholm – had a goal and an assist each. Penalty killing was good for Dublin, as Oslo’s powerplay was 0 for 7. Nikita Nikitin will get more playing time, thanks to an arm injury that Oslo defenseman Matt Niskanen suffered in the game. Niskanen is expected to be out up to two weeks. Nikita had appeared in only 10 games this season before getting the injury call-up.
Belfast 5, Edinburgh 2 – Sergei Mozyakin scored a pair of goals in a span of less than two minutes to put Belfast up 4-1 over visiting Edinburgh in the second period. From that point on, it was just a matter of waiting for the final horn. The Giants outshot the Capitals 40-21 in the game. The Giants are in second place overall in the league, 3 points behind Minsk.
Gothenburg 3, Bratislava 2 – Frolunda stunned the home crowd in the first period when Beau Bennett and Adam Henrique tallied with a two-minute span and Gothenburg and goalie Pekka Rinne fought off Bratislava the rest of the way. The winners played with fire by taking five penalties to the Eagles’ none. Henrique and Jordan Eberle had two points each for Gothenburg, while Alexander Ovechkin had two assists for the Eagles.
Athens 4, London 1 – The Gods line of Anze Kopitar, Andrew Ladd and Jason Pominville secured a home win for Athens. The trio was on the ice for all five goals in the game, including their own 4 goals. Pominville scored two, Kopitar finished with 3 assists and Ladd led all in scoring with 4 points. London’s Ryan Miller made 39 saves in a losing cause. With the win, the Gods have opened up a 3-point gap between them and the next best team in the Southern Conference.
