A second class of nominee candidates has been announced for the EURO Hockey League Hall of Fame
Two seasons ago, three players and a “builder” were the first four people voted into the Hall of Fame. Nicklas Lidstrom, Teemu Selanne and Zdeno Chara have taken their eternal places in the league’s Hall of Fame in Austria. Chuck Massaro, league founder and commissioner, joined them.
To gain entry to the EURO Hall of Fame ( https://eurohockeyleague.wordpress.com/hall-of-fame/ ) a player will have to earn a certain number of points, so there could be years in which no one is voted in and that’s not a bad thing because there are still many great players like Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Quick and Evgeny Malkin who are still playing and will surely make it into the Hall of Fame.
I took the results of the last vote and eliminated players who scored below 5 in our voting. My thinking is if they scored that low, they probably will never make it into the Hall. Eliminated from future voting were Mark Streit, Mike Weaver, Matt Gilroy, Sheldon Souray, Willie Mitchell, Adrian Aucoin and Bryce Salvador.
Eleven players who retired over the last two seasons were added to the second Hall of Fame ballot and only three of them ever appeared in a EURO All-Star game. It’s not a very strong class, in my opinion.
Voting will be done by individual Websim messages or e-mails from each General Manager to the Commissioner (buffalolean@gmail.com). The deadline will be Dec. 31.
To vote, copy the list below and place a numerical value next to the name, ranging from 10 to 1, with 10 being “Should Definitely be in” to 1 “Shouldn’t have even been nominated.” I think the superstars like Crosby, Jagr, etc. should get extra consideration just for being who they are. I would encourage you GMs to think of their NHL history and give – or take away – some points accordingly.
To minimize attempts to inflate or sabotage (hey, it could happen) the commissioner will throw out the top and bottom votes and average the remainder. A minimum score of 8.1 will be required to gain entry into the Hall. The players’ career statistics are listed further down in this story.

Here is an example of the rating scale: 10 – Should definitely be in, a real superstar. 9 – Not the best player in the league while he played, but should be in. 8 – Always thought of as a very good player. A perennial all-star. 7 – Good but not great 6 – Solid player 5 – Had a couple of really good years 4 – 3 – Did well as a third liner 2 – 1 – Wait, he played in this league?
If any GM would like to nominate someone in the Builders category, please add their names here (a separate vote will be held):
Here are some details about the nominees. The first section lists the number of seasons they played and with whom, then – in the next section – their career statistics. It would probably be fair to all players if you would look at their individual Websim cards by going to the “GM Office” tab and then “Withdrawn and Retired.”
