Minsk opens season with 7-3 win

I am going to try to write a sentence or two about each game.

St. Petersburg 4, Prague 3 (OT-SO) – Goalie Ondrej Pavelec earned a point in the standings for Prague, making 55 saves in a game the home team dominated. Jan Kovar scored twice for the Krasnyye Zvezdy.

Lisbon 3, Athens 1 – Anze Kopitar gave Athens a 1-0 lead in the first period, but John Tavares, Drew Doughty and Matt Mouslon (2 points each) led a charge back for Lisbon HC.

Moscow 5, Edinburgh 0 – Dynamo outshot the Capitals 55-14, scoring four goals in the third period. Ryan O’Reilly and Kris Versteeg had two points apiece. Edinburgh’s Jason Demers played 16 minutes, was a minus 2, and then became the first injury casualty of the new season.

Madrid 4, Helsinki 3 – Helsinki nearly made a comeback from a 4-0 deficit. Three of the Royals’ goals came on powerplays, including the eventual game-winner by Andrej Mezsaros, who also blocked 4 shots for Madrid.

Minsk 7, Oslo 3 – The champions raised the Cup banner before the game and then rifled in 7 goals on 50 shots against Oslo goalie Semyon Varlamov. Six different forwards and defenseman Ryan McDonagh scored for Minsk while, Connor McDavid and one-time Hussar Zach Parise each had a goal and an assist for the Outlaws.

Geneva 2, Milan 0 – Frederik Andersen shutout Milan on 22 shots while the Generals were able to get two pucks past Andrew Hammond at the other end. Dylan Larkin and Nazem Kadri scored for Geneva in front of almost 14,000 home fans.
