Berlin keeps Paris from gaining a point

Berlin 4, Paris 3 – The first period had to demoralize Paris a bit because they outshot Berlin 11-5 yet came out of the period trailing 2-1. Paris was kept off balance the rest of the game, but they were able to tie it twice in the third period. Loui Eriksson scored for the second time in two days to put Berlin up 3-2 and defenseman Josh Gorges won the game by breaking a 3-3 tie with 4:23 remaining. The two teams are bunched at the top of the conference standings right now with Madrid and Prague.

Oslo 4, St. Petersburg 0 – Semyon Varlamov was perfect in goal for Oslo, stopping all 34 Red Star shots. The Outlaws played a disciplined game, committing no penalties, and scored once in the second period and three more in the third period. Defenseman Andrei Markov scored his first goal as an Outlaw and the second line of Mikhail Grabovski, Tomas Hertl and P-A Parenteau came up with two goals on 11 shots.

Copenhagen 2, London 1 – Tim Thomas of Copenhagen and Martin Jones of London were locked in a 1-1 goalie duel until Josh Holden scored with 9 seconds left by one-timing a Chris Higgins pass and sending the puck between Jones’ pads. Higgins also scored a goal and for both Tridents, it was their first goals of the season. Jimmie Ericsson scored his third of the year for London. Dmitri Orlov played another strong game for London, delivering 7 hits and blocking 4 shots. Jiri Hudler of London was injured and is probably going to be replaced by rookie Jason Zucker for a couple of weeks.

Gothenburg 6, Edinburgh 3 – Gothenburg gave Edinburgh the game’s first goal but then reeled off five straight and coasted to a win at home. Jordan Eberle, Eric Staal and Carl Hagelin all scored three points for Gothenburg and Eberle now shares the league scoring lead with Belfast’s James Neal. Staal scored two goals and is the co-leader among all EURO players in goals with 7. Jamie Benn scored two powerplay goals for Edinburgh. Petr Vrana, who had 5 points in 9 games and who has been pretty durable in his three-plus seasons in Gothenburg, suffered a nasty knee injury and is expected to miss nearly a month of games. Swedish rookie Linus Klasen is expected to be Vrana’s replacement.

Geneva 6, Bratislava 2 – Marian Gaborik, David Desharnais and Erik Cole worked well together as the Generals shelled Bratislava in Switzerland. Gaborik scored twice, Desharnais once and both had 3 points. Cole had 2 assists. Troy Brouwer scored both of Bratislava’s goals and had a game-high 6 shots on goal. Bratislava’s five game starters had a miserable 60 minutes. Jonathan Toews, Tyler Ennis, Marian Hossa, Tyler Myers and Christian Ehrhoff were all minus 5 on the day.

Lisbon 3, Madrid 1 – In the first battle of teams from the Iberian Peninsula, Lisbon conquered Madrid in convincing fashion. Just a day after slaughtering visiting Copenhagen 7-1, Lisbon HC was just as inhospitable to their nearest neighbors. Despite 6 powerplays, Madrid was only able to muster 13 shots on goal. Lisbon, meanwhile, ran a consistent attack and would up with 38 shots on Madrid’s Robin Lehner. All three Lisbon goals were scored by defensemen, as Jonas Holos, Seth Jones and Drew Doughty tallied scored.
