Lucic, Backstrom lead Minsk to win

Sunday games

Minsk 6, Gothenburg 3 – Milan Lucic assisted on 4 Minsk goals before scoring one of his own in the last minute and a half a game that was close for 50 minutes even though Minsk had twice the number of shots that Gothenburg did. Nicklas Backstrom (2 goals and 2 assists) was almost as productive as his big linemate.

Athens 8, Bratislava 3 – The Greeks showed Bratislava who’s boss with a spanking on home ice. Ryan O’Reilly led the charge with 2 goals and 2 assists, while T.J. Oshie, Scott Hartnell and Jason Pominville all had multi-point games against their former teammate, Corey Crawford.

Paris 6, Zurich 2 – The score was 2-2 with 5 minutes remaining in the second period when Paris started a four-goal run to pull away at home. Paris Finns Ossi Vaananen scored twice and Mikko Koivu had 3 assists, while Koivu, David Perron and Joffrey Lupul were +4 as a line.

Madrid 5, Geneva 4 – Madrid goalie Jonas Hiller made just enough saves to make Geneva’s comeback from a 5-2 score come up  a little short. Madrid’s Andrew Cogliano scored twice and defensemen Erik Karlsson and Roman Polak blocked a total of 7 Geneva shots. Riley Sheahan and Ilya Nikulin each had 2 assists for Geneva.

Dublin 2, Munich 1 – Tomas Plekanec and Milan Michalek scored third-period goals to give Dublin a one-goal win in a game in which they outshot Munich 40-25. Cory Schneider made 38 saves for the Dire Wolf, who got a goal from defenseman Chris Campoli. It was Munich’s fourth consecutive loss and they will have a chance at revenge when the two teams meet again on Wednesday.

Milan 4, Stockholm 0 – The Guerriero played a great game and the group effort helped 28-year-old Ben Bishop record his second career shutout. Milan allowed just one Stockholm shot in the scoreless first period and then put four goals past Stockholm goalie Braden Holtby in the second period. Joakim Lindstrom was the offensive star of the game, getting a goal and two assists.
