Pavelski goal gives Copenhagen first win

Thursday’s games

Copenhagen 3, Bern 2 – Joe Pavelski and Stephen Weiss had half of Copenhagen’s 34 shots on goal as the Tridents won for the first time this season. Nathan Gerbe and Paul Byron scored to give them a 2-0 lead, but Bern tied it with a shorthanded goal by Tobias Enstrom and an even-strength goal by Andrei Kostitsyn. Pavelski put one in with less than two minutes to go, giving Tim Thomas and Copenhagen the victory.

Geneva 3, Berlin 0 – Fredrik Andersen shut out the Smurfs and Geneva (2-0-1) is looking dangerous 3 games into the season. A Rickard Wallin goal in the third period was the difference between the two teams until the Generals added two empty-net goals in the last 1:02 of the game. Andersen made 29 saves.

Minsk 3, Milan 0 – Minsk gave Milan 10 power play opportunities but the Hussars penalty killing and goalie Carey Price were too good in this game. Price earned his first shutout of the season. Milan Lucic (1 goal, 1 assist) was the only player with a multi-point game.

Athens 5, St. Petersburg 1 – Athens looked in control at home, outshooting the visiting Red Stars 32-21. Kyle Palmieri scored twice and he now has 4 goals to lead the league in the young season. Greek third-line center Bobby Butler had 2 assists and won 8 of 10 face-offs. Attendance was very low for the game as only 3,840 fans were in the building.

Moscow 3, Oslo 2 – Spartak had 20 more shots than the Outlaws did, but only one more goal, as Oslo goalie Semyon Varlamov, a Russian, played very well. Four of the game’s five goals were scored in the second period, with Max Pacioretty, Ryan Suter and John Mitchell scoring for Moscow and Tomas Hertl scoring his third of the season for Oslo. Tyler Seguin notched his first of the year to make it interesting with just under 5 minutes to play.

Zurich 6, Helsinki 3 – A duel between two of the most famous goalies in the league was a disaster for both of them. Henrik Lundqvist of Helsinki was sizzled for six goals and took the loss, but Zurich’s Roberto Luongo did much worse. He was pulled from the game with Helsinki on top 3-1 and he never touched a single puck. Dean Dubnyk came in in relief and stopped the next 40 Jokerit shots. Ilya Kovalchuk and Patrice Bergeron each had a goal and 3 assists for Zurich, while former Lion Alexander Radulov scored 2 goals for Helsinki.
