Spezza looking good in Prague sweater

Last night’s games in roughly two sentences each:

Prague 6, Copenhagen 3 – Nearly 20,000 fans saw their Prague Wolf Pack pour on the offense and get their second win in two days on home ice. Longtime Bern Bear Jason Spezza paced the offense with 2 goals and 2 assists, while his second-line winger Nail Yakupov scored twice and added an assist. Stephen Weiss had 2 goals and 1 assist for Copenhagen.

Bratislava 4, Bern 0 – Marc-Andre Fleury had lots of help in recording his 12th career shutout and first in a Bratislava uniform. The Eagles outshot Bern 32-16 and were led by Jonathan Toews and Tyler Ennis, who each had a goal and an assist. Bern’s Dennis Seidenberg had 5 blocked shots and 3 hits to lead his team in both categories.

Athens 5, Lisbon 3 – It wasn’t a pretty win for Athens, but the Greeks emerged from a messy game with 2 points. Lisbon outshot Athens 42-33 and had the man advantage one more time than Athens did in a game that saw 19 minor penalties called. But David Backes and Vadim Shipachyov came through with goals in a third period that began with the score tied 3-3.

Berlin 3, Helsinki 2 – Jimmy Howard and Henrik Lundqvist played well in a hard-fought battle between to game teams. The Jokerit had 10 more shots than did the Smurfs, but Howard was good enough to get it all the way to a shootout, where he and his Berlin teammates won it. Helsinki stayed true to form, being super aggressive and out-hitting Berlin 39-23.

Madrid 3, Milan 1 – Madrid got some secondary scoring and were too much for the Guerriero to handle. Dan Winnick and Chris Kreider were able to sandwich a Gabriel Landeskog powerplay goal and give the Royals a 3-0 lead that they held until there were 23 seconds left and Milan’s Tyler Johnson scored to keep Robin Lehner from getting a shutout.

Edinburgh 5, Oslo 2 – Brandon Dubinsky scored the first three goals and rookie GM/player Marc Peninou picked up his second assist in two games to help Edinburgh repel the visiting Outlaws. Former Frankfurt/Lisbon star Claude Giroux had 8 shots on goal but no points.
