With Websim’s website, it’s not difficult to find out who the top goal scorer in the EURO League is today. Just go to the Stats page, click the “G” and voila! It’s Ilya Kovalchuk, Zurich’s 31-year-old sniper who has 16 goals in 18 games.
Good work, Ilya.
Wait, that sounds a little too familiar for such a feat. We’ll restate that.
Good work, Mr. Kovalchuk.
Even that seems too informal, given the fact he’s already nearly half way to his career best 36 goals.
Good work, Mr. Kovalcharles.
That’s as formal as we can.
But if you dig a little deeper into the stats with the help of an Excel spreadsheet, you will find out there are four EURO players who are – technically – scoring goals at a faster pace than Mr. Kovalcharles is.
We took the stats of the 163 players who currently have scored at least 10 points, multiplied their ice time by the number of games they have played to come up with a new column called Total Time (TT).
If you divide the number of goals a player has scored by the total time he’s played, you will see that Mr. Kovalcharles is ranked fifth in the league. He plays a ton for the Lions, averaging 23 minutes per game. The guy with the most goals per minute is a big surprise. Gustav Nyquist has played only 9 games for the Minsk Hussars but the Swedish rookie has 6 goals in his 15 minutes per game. That means he scores 0.044 goals per minute, the best rate in the league.
Here are the top 5 in other categories. Remember that only players who have 10 points or more are included, which means stats like penalty minutes, hits, takeaways and blocked shots could have different leaders.
