Athens beats Munich in series, 4-1

Athens is through to the next round after Jason Pominville tied Game 5 against Munich and then won it in overtime. Munich had a two goal lead after two periods, thanks to goals by Brooks Laich – shorthanded – and Dan Boyle, but Scott Hartnell scored his 8th of the playoffs in the third and Pominville tied it with a little less than half a period to go. In the second OT, Ryan O’Reilly and rookie Staffan Kronwall got the puck to Pominville to the left of Munich goalie Jonathan Quick and Pominville bounced it off Quick’s shoulder and into the net. Athens will wait for the winner of the Paris-Geneva series. The Greeks should have David Backes back. Backes missed the last game with an injury,

Geneva wins second straight, 3-1

Paris leads Geneva in series, 3-2

Paris held a 3-0 lead in the series, but the champs don’t seem to want to leave just yet. Geneva won 3-1 on Tuesday, getting a goal in each period and outshooting Les Rouges Eiffels 33-25 in Paris. Rickard Wallin and Chris Kunitz came through with their first goals of the playoffs and Nicklas Lidstrom scored his second. Josef Vasicek scored his 4th of the post season for Paris.
