Joe Thornton led the Munich Fox to a 3-2 win at home Sunday, handing the Geneva Generals their first loss of the playoffs. Thornton had a goal and 2 assists and won 16 of 21 faceoffs, mainly against the line of Mike Fisher, Teemu Selanne and Ryan Malone. Thornton and his linemates – Patrik Elias and Milan Hejduk – each scored a goal and all were plus 3 during the game, as were Fox blueliners Toni Lydman and Dion Phaneuf. The three members of the Thornton line lead their team in scoring through 14 post season games, as Thornton has 20 points, Hejduk has 17 and Elias has 12. During the regular season, they also finished at the top of the Fox scoring list with 91, 66 and 63 points respectively. Nick Foligno scored both Geneva goals. Munich outshot Geneva 24-15 through the first two periods, and Geneva pushed hard in the third while trying to get the equalizing goal. Geneva outshot Munich 11-2 in the final period but Munich’s Jonathan Quick held on for the win. Roman Hamrlik played a strong game for Munich, blocking 3 shots and delivering 3 hits in 19 minutes of ice time. Dennis Wideman of the Generals blocked 3 shots and had 5 hits, but was a minus 2 along with partner Nicklas Lidstrom, who was the overtime hero of Game 2. Munich will try for another home ice win on Tuesday, which would even the series at 2-2.
