The Dublin Fighting Irish tried to set a turbulent tone in Game 1 of the conference finals series, but wound up being rocked by the Tridents 6-1. Dublin took 11 penalties to Copenhagen’s zero. By the end of the first period, Dublin had dug themselves a big hole from which they could never climb out. Shorthanded for half the period, they wound up being outshot 19-4 and they gave up 4 goals including two on the powerplay. In the second period, more penalty trouble led to two Troy Brouwer powerplay tallies and a 6-1 deficit that carried through the third period. Brouwer, who now has 9 goals in the playoffs, had seven shots on goal and was named the second star, with Derek Roy collecting a goal and three assists, along with 6 shots and a very uncharacteristic 6 hits, to be named the first star. Copenhagen met Dublin’s rough style of play with hits of their own and wound up with a 27-25 advantage in hits. In goal, the familiar faces of Roberto Luongo and Tim Thomas made 26 and 30 saves, respectively. Evander Kane’s 10th of the playoffs was the only shot that made it past Luongo on Tuesday. The Tridents won at the turnstiles as well as on the scoreboard, as 17,783 fans generated more than $1.74 million.
