Bratislava 2, Zurich 1

Both goalies – Richard Bachman of Bratislava and Brian Elliott of Zurich – played well, making 24 and 36 saves respectively, but it was Danish forward Frans Nielsen who was named the first star. Nielsen slipped the puck through Elliott’s five hole after taking a doorstep pass from Tim Connolly to open the scoring in the first period, and then worked hard in the Zurich zone to get an assist on Tyler Ennis’s 17th of the season in the second period. The Eagles goals sandwiched a hard slapshot goal by Barrett Jackman, who scored his 8th during a Lions powerplay.

Ryan Suter scored the first two goals of the contest, both with the man advantage and he now has 11 goals this season, which puts him in a group of 12 blueliners with at least that many goals. Daniel Sedin had a shorthanded goal and 3 assists for the Devils, while Weber also scored shorthanded.  James neal was Edinburgh’s star player on Sunday, scoring two goals and adding an assist.
