Munich blitzed Bern for a 5-1 win Tuesday to even their series at 2 games each. The winner will go on to play Geneva, who swept Bratislava in four straight games. Bern goalie Mike Smith wasn’t as sharp as Jonathan Quick Tuesday and Matt Cooke and Brooks Laich each scored two for the Foxes. Bern…
Tim Thomas has stolen at least two games from the St. Petersburg Lynx and now has them one game from elimination. Petrograd will have to win three straight against Thomas and the Dublin Fighting Irish in order to advance to the conference finals to face the winner of the other Northern Conference series. The Munich Fox had the better of play throughout the game and outshot Bern 30-18 but lost 5-2. The box score looked a lot like the Bern box scores we were seeing early in the season. Ray Whitney opened the scoring, Jason Spezza had a pair of goals and Mike Smith was busy making 28…
Goalie Tim Thomas kept the Dublin Fighting Irish in the game long enough for the line of Olli Jokinen, Milan Michalek and Thomas Fleischmann to come up with some heroics and give the underdogs a 2-1 series lead. After St. Petersburg quieted the Dublin crowd with two first-period goals – Willie Mitchell and David Legwand…

Jarome Iginla, Viktor Stalberg and Willie Mitchell served up three goals and that was plenty big enough for Pekka Rinne, who starts the second round of the EURO playoffs with a…
Lee Stempniak stunned the home crowd in Prague Saturday with a wristshot goal in overtime that eliminated the Sparta from the EURO playoffs and catapulted the Eagles into the second round. Prague seemed to have been doing everything right against the upstart seventh-seed in the seventh game of what was dubbed the Czechoslovakia series. The…
Twice in a matter of 9 seconds, the Derek Roy to Dany Heatley combination worked for goals to blow open a tight game and win it for Copenhagen. Seventh-seeded Gothenburg took the Tridents to Game 7 in the opening round playoff series, and the contest was tied for almost all of the first 30 minutes.…
