Belfast 5, Minsk 3 – The two … umm, giants … of the league (one is actually called the Giants) battled in Belfast Wednesday and although the visiting Hussars came out flying, their goalie let them down early. While Belfast’s Jonathan Quick spent the first period turning away 13 Minsk shots, Hussar starter Carey Price allowed…
Madrid 4, Bern 1 – The Madrid Royals have a gorgeous new logo and an all-business attitude as they swamped Bern in the game and moved ahead of Paris and Bratislava in the standings. Blake Wheeler scored twice, Erik Karlsson scored for the second straight game, and Sean Couturier and Zach Boychuk registered points in their…
Paris 6, Athens 5 (OT-SO) – Goalies Philipp Grubauer of Paris and Jaroslav Halak of Athens weren’t great for the first 60 minutes, but when they got into next-goal-wins territory, they were both money goalies. The score was 5-5 after regulation time and with an important point on the line, both teams played a tentative,…
Belfast 4, Milan 1 – The Giants used a combination of great penalty killing, superb goaltending and a suffocating dump and chase game to send 16,696 Italians into the streets of Milan frustrated. It was the only game in the league Sunday. Jonathan Quick looked smooth in net saving 33 Milan shots and Belfast got…
Madrid 5, Lisbon 4 – The Madrid Royals were trailing by a goal in the third period against their neighbor Lisbon, when Patrik Berglund turned the game around. The 29-year-old Swede worked hard along the boards and slid the puck into the high slot where Shea Weber received it and fired away, scoring his 19th…
Bratislava 4, Prague 1 – There was just one game in the EURO League Friday and it featured teams from the former Czechoslovakia. Bratislava created some separation between themselves and Madrid and Paris at the very top of the Southern Conference standings. The Eagles can clinch first place if they can win one and at least…
St. Petersburg 4, Dublin 2 – The Dublin Fighting Irish wish the end of the regular season would get here before the St. Petersburg Krasnyye Zvezdy are able to pass them. Thursday’s game in Ireland between the two teams was huge for both as they battle for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Northern…
Things to look for as the season winds down: The President’s Trophy as the league’s best regular season team is still in doubt. Minsk as 112 points with six games to play and Belfast has 110 with five games left. This I find unbelievable: Belfast could finish as the league’s top team and two of…
Will some of the EURO League’s teams get unexpected lineup boosts just in time for the playoffs? It might be less than a week* when we find out the attributes of players like Auston Matthews of Copenhagen, Mitch Marner of Moscow and Ivan Provorov of Paris. The next question is how will their teams use…
Paris 3, Gothenburg 1 – Benoit Pouliot scored a goal to make it 2-0 and then he assisted on Ossi Vaananen’s goal in the third that relieved a lot of pressure and put the Rouge Eiffels up 3-1. Alex Pietrangelo scored the game’s first goal and in the process, he set a new personal best…
